A few months back I announced my new mission and vision.
At the time, I said that I wasn’t entirely sure how to make this vision a reality, but I am pleased to inform you that things are starting to take shape. Over the last few weeks I have begun to align myself with several organizations which I feel are doing great work for those in need of a home. And while I am in the business of helping people buy or sell a home, Desiato Homes is committed to providing homes for people who are in need.
Below I have provided a brief bio of the three organizations that I am partnering with.
PARTNER LOCALLY
Habitat’s mission is to eliminate poverty housing. Partnering with caring individuals and organizations, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County (HFHMC) constructs simple, decent, affordable homes and empowers hardworking, low-income families to become homeowners by providing no-interest mortgages with which to buy them.
About Habitat for Humanity International:
Vision
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Mission statement
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
PARTNER NATIONALLY
Together We Rise is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the way youth navigate through the foster care system in America.
TWR collaborates with community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system. TWR works with hundreds of foster agencies, social workers, CASA advocates, and other partners to bring our programs to foster youth across the nation. Our foundation has allowed us to provide thousands of foster youth across the country with new bicycles, college supplies, and suitcases so that children do not have to travel from home to home with their belongings in a trash bag.
PARTNER GLOBALLY
In Brazil, prostitution is legal and while child prostitution and trafficking is not, they are both a very real struggle that is seen on a daily basis. Bethany Villa is home in Brazil for girls, ages 0-18 years-old, who have been rescued from situations such as abuse and abandonment. The house is a place of safety and recovery where trained staff consistently care for girls in an environment of love and encouragement. BV has a staff of professionals including psychologists, social workers and caretakers who ensure that the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of each girl is met. The staff works jointly with the local children’s court and caseworkers to determine if there is a possibility of reintegration into the biological family. This is the hope for each girl who comes to Bethany; that her family can be restored and that she can be safely reunited. In the cases where reintegration is not possible, BV works with the local children’s court to search for other options including adoption.
Desiato Homes is making a difference by not only helping people buy/sell houses, but by using our platform and resources to help those in need find a forever home. How are we doing it? For starters, my family and I are committing to donating 10% of my commission* (up to $250 for each residential transaction), to one of three non-profit organizations that make it their business to provide forever homes to people in need. So for example, if I handle 15 residential real estate transactions this year, then that is potentially $3750 being distributed among these worthy causes. But it’s not about the money, it’s about the good work that these organizations are doing on a daily basis and how we as a community of like-minded individuals can do our part. The best part is – my clients not only get to choose which organization they would like the money to go to, but they are invited to make their own contribution! I envision a team of us one day helping build a Habitat home together, or organizing a 5k fundraiser for children in the foster care system. This is not some unrealistic, grandiose dream. This is something that can be achieved by people who are willing to put other people’s needs ahead of their own, and use their influence and resources to make a difference.
