This year has had a lot of huge changes for me personally and professionally. At the beginning of the year we thought I might be getting cast at Sight & Sound, which would mean another change in career. Then we found out that we would be able to move in 2017 instead of 2018. Then I decided that it was in my family’s best interest that I take on a part-time job as I try to build the kind of business that will last. Then I launched a TV show and we welcomed an exchange student into our home for the 2017-2018 school year.
Some people might start to think that I am addicted to change. I promise you that I am not. But I am addicted to doing inventory on my life to be sure I am always putting myself and my family in the best possible position.
That is why I decided it was time to make a change in real estate broker once again. In December 2015, I left Keller Williams because it had become clear to me that my style and business philosophy were not a fit with the KW model of traditional real estate sales. I joined a small independent brokerage called Entourage Elite Real Estate and immediately found the team there to be a fit for my way of thinking. I truly appreciated my near two years there.
But since I create all of my own marketing materials, and am committed to one day operating a completely independent business, I realized that I needed to make my income go further.
In order to do that, I needed to switch to a different brokerage model. One in which I play a flat fee per transaction rather than a commission split. This will allow to take home more of the money that I have earned and more importantly, invest the money that had been going to my broker back into my own business. This is not a slight on the commission split model at all. The folks at EE were amazing to deal with and always provided their full attention whenever I needed it. And most brokerages and agents operate hand in hand this way. But for me, and what I am trying to build with the various integrated platforms I have begun to establish, I needed to make this change.
It was not an easy decision to make.
When I left KW, I knew it was the right decision because I was unhappy with how much money I was losing because I was not benefiting from the “value” they were providing. But this change, came rather unexpectedly. I had no plans to switch at all. But that was because I didn’t know what options were available to me. Sometimes our decisions are based on our lack of understanding what else is out there.
As of this past week, I have decided to hang my real estate license with Springer Realty Group in Limerick. What does that mean for you? Absolutely nothing. The only thing that changes is that you will start to see the SRG logo on my marketing materials instead of EE because it is required by law.
I want to thank the team at Entourage Elite for being great to work with and for keeping the door open for me if I ever choose to return.
Here’s to the beginning of yet another chapter in my career. If you would like to find out more about this change, shoot me an email geoff@desiatohomes.com
